What to Wear: Fall Sessions 2014

I am sooo behind on blog posts, but I really wanted to get a short “What to Wear” post up since I have a lot of upcoming family sessions over the next few months.  After a family books their session, their next question is usually for suggestions about what to wear.  My answer is usually the same, I suggest choosing two or three complimentary colors and throwing in patterns, textures and accessories to bring everything together.  I know that advice can still leave people a little confused and the last thing I want is for clients to stress about outfits before their session.

With that in mind, I put together a few family looks for inspiration.

Where to find the pieces: Gap (dad’s shirt, jeans and shoes), Old Navy (mom’s, boy’s and girl’s complete looks) and Janie & Jack (boy’s hat).

Where to find the pieces: Gap (dad’s complete look, boy’s sweater, shirt, jeans & shoes and girl’s shoes), Old Navy (mom’s blouse, jeans & shoes), Banana Republic (mom’s necklace), Gymboree (girl’s dress & headband) and Janie & Jack (boy’s hat).

And finally, I thought I would show how I put together outfits for my own family portraits.  Photo credit goes to my incredibly talented friend, Devon O’Donnell!  She always manages to make my crazy family look fantastic!

Hopefully these inspiration outfits will help you pull together a look for your fall family portraits.  I can’t wait to see lots of familiar faces and some new ones over the next few months!

A Little Girl to Complete the Family

I’ve been photographing this beautiful family for a few years now and I was so thrilled to hear they were expecting baby #3 and it was a girl!!  This little princess will be adored by her big brothers.  The beach was the perfect setting for this maternity session, the boys had lots of fun playing in the sand and water!  And this mama-to-be couldn’t be any more beautiful.

Sweet Sisters

The last time I photographed this family was in November and it was FREEZING!!  The weather for their session this time was much, much nicer.  These two sisters are so sweet to each other!  If they are anything like my girls, I’m sure it’s not like that all the time but it definitely puts a smile on my face when they are like that for photos:)

Playing Catch Up…

I have so many sessions to post and blog so today I’m going to try to catch up a little.  It’s been a busy summer!

I’ve known this gorgeous mama since high school and I was so glad I had the chance to photograph her family.  Her kids are not only adorable, but super sweet too!  Although the littlest guy gave me a run for my money…his Honey Badger nickname suits him perfectly!  I was especially excited for this session because I’ve always wanted to shoot in this location.  If you live in SoCo, I’m sure you will recognize it 😉

Baby on Board….

I met this sweet family last November when I was doing mini-sessions at a local tree farm.  I was so glad when they contacted me recently for family photos!  And they also had some fantastic news they were hoping to share with some announcement photos….they are expecting baby #2!  Their little guy wasn’t sure what to make of the lady with the camera, he really made me work to get a smile.  But it was definitely worth it!  Isn’t he the cutest?!?
